The Delaware County Regional Sewer District recently was honored with two statewide awards from the Ohio Water Environment Association, a nonprofit agency that represents the wastewater industry in Ohio with more than 2,000 members.

Delaware County’s Alum Creek Water Reclamation Facility in Lewis Center was named the recipient of the OWEA’s Facility Image Award. This award annually recognizes members whose work to improve the physical image of their workplace helps enhance the industry’s reputation. First built in the late 1990s, the Alum Creek plant is located within a residential neighborhood near Olentangy Orange H.S. Thanks to well-planned architecture and landscaping, it has proven itself to be a good neighbor.

“We have worked very hard over the past several years,” said Tiffany Maag, director of the Regional Sewer District, “to enhance the image of the plan and to perform much needed upgrades to maintain a high quality of treatment and efficiency. Our plan was selected for this award out of the entire state of Ohio, which is a really great honor.”

Also recognized by the OWEA was RSD’s Construction Administrator Brad Stanton, who was inducted into the 5S Society, an honorary group that selects members on the basis of a career demonstrating “outstanding, meritorious service above and beyond the call of duty,” according to the OWEA. The term “5S” stands for “Select Society of Sanitary Sludge Shovelers,” Maag said.

“Brad’s depth of experience and wastewater treatment knowledge has been invaluable to us,” said Maag. “He is so worthy of this recognition and we all want to congratulate him on this accomplishment.”

Stanton joined Delaware County’s Regional Sewer District in 2018 after a 32-year career with the City of Delaware’s Public Utilities Department. With Delaware County, Stanton has led the RSD’s capital program for its wastewater treatment plants.
