Delaware City Council will meet for its regular session on October 28 at 7:00 PM in Council Chambers, with a live stream available online. The agenda includes liquor permit applications, review ordinances related to local development and infrastructure, and consideration of appointments to various boards. Residents interested in the city’s growth and infrastructure plans are encouraged to attend or watch online.

Liquor Permit Requests Aim to Boost Local Venues

A Thirst for Business Expansion

Three items on the agenda focus on liquor permits, vital for expanding social and entertainment options in Delaware. Here’s a closer look:

  • New Permit for Meeker Venue:
Meeker Rentals LLC, operating as Meeker Venue at 385 E. William Street, seeks approval for a new D2 and D3 permit, allowing the sale of wine, mixed beverages, and spirituous liquor until midnight.
  • New Permit for AIC of Ohio LLC:
Located at 59 Potter Street, AIC of Ohio LLC is also requesting D2 and D3 permits. This approval would enable broader beverage offerings at the site, supporting a growing entertainment scene in Delaware.
  • Liquor Permit Transfer to TRACBR LLC:
The transfer involves a D2 and D3 permit currently held by BROES LLC (doing business as Buns Restaurant) to TRACBR LLC, covering the courtyard-only space at 12-14 W Winter Street. This adjustment aims to enhance outdoor dining experiences in the heart of downtown Delaware.

The approval of these permits signals continued interest in Delaware’s business sector, fostering a vibrant local economy and providing residents with diverse options for dining and entertainment.

Major Ordinances Focus on Community Expansion and Infrastructure

Supporting Growth and Development

Three ordinances will receive council attention during the meeting, reflecting broader efforts to accommodate Delaware’s ongoing growth and infrastructure needs:

Expansion of Delaware Northwest New Community Authority

  • Ordinance No. 24-67 enters its fourth reading, focusing on expanding the Delaware Northwest New Community Authority. This entity plays a crucial role in managing new development and infrastructure improvements, with an emphasis on meeting the needs of the growing northwest sector of the city.
  • As Delaware continues to see residential and commercial growth, this expansion could provide more effective administration of public services and projects, benefiting the broader community.

Creating Rutherford Acres Tax Increment Financing (TIF) District

  • Ordinance No. 24-69 proposes establishing the Rutherford Acres Tax Increment Financing (TIF) Incentive District. If approved, it would incentivize development by providing property tax exemptions on improvements within the district.
  • Revenue from the district, generated through service payments in lieu of taxes, would fund public infrastructure improvements, such as roadways and utilities. It also directs a portion of the service payments to support Delaware City Schools and the Delaware Area Career Center, reinforcing the city’s commitment to education amid development efforts.

Annexation of 87 Acres Near Berlin Station Road

  • Ordinance No. 24-76, currently in its third reading, proposes annexing 87.164 acres from Delaware Township into the city. The area includes 2.646 acres of Preservation Park District land, integrating additional green space into the city’s jurisdiction. The annexation request, filed by RiverbyBerlin LLC, involves land located near Berlin Station Road and Pollock Road, signaling further expansion in Delaware’s northern corridor.

These ordinances underscore Delaware’s focus on strategic growth, balancing residential, commercial, and infrastructure needs. If passed, they will shape the city’s development landscape for years to come, supporting both economic growth and community services.

Appointments and Traffic Adjustments on the Agenda

City Boards, Commissions, and Traffic Safety in Focus

In addition to ordinances, the council will address appointments to various boards, commissions, and committees, aiming to strengthen local governance and civic engagement:

Resolution No. 24-64 (As Amended) involves appointments to multiple city boards, such as the Planning Commission, Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, and others. The resolution specifies the terms of each appointment, ensuring continuity in city operations and policy development.

Additionally, Resolution No. 24-68 will be considered to temporarily establish Broadview Chase Drive as a one-way westbound street. This temporary change will remain in place until Merrick Blvd. connects to Troy Road, aimed at improving traffic flow and safety in the area. Traffic adjustments like this one reflect Delaware’s proactive approach to managing road safety as infrastructure evolves.

Council Meeting Details and Public Involvement

Residents Encouraged to Engage with City Decisions

The October 28 meeting provides an opportunity for Delaware residents to participate in city planning and policy decisions. From liquor permit approvals to infrastructure discussions, these issues have a direct impact on the community’s development and daily life.

Citizens can attend in person at Council Chambers or follow the meeting live through the city’s website, ensuring transparent and accessible government processes. The city encourages feedback from residents, reinforcing a collaborative approach to governance.
