Let’s face it. Winter in Ohio can unpredictable and, on occasion, downright nasty. Local communities face that challenge on several levels, including snow removal on streets, sidewalks, and even public trails.

The City of Delaware’s Department of Public Works has created and adopted its 2018-2019 Winter Snow & Ice Management Policy – ten pages of what, when, and how city crews will handle what this winter has to offer.[widgets_on_pages id=1]

Covered topics include the following, among others:

  • Government coordination – How decisions will be made in executing the Policy
  • Treatment options – How the City will approach the application of salt, etc. depending on the length of cold spells and depth of snow and ice
  • Snow removal – route priorization – The methodology for the order in which City streets are plowed
  • Specific areas and facilities – A look at what will take place for the downtown business district, airport, fire stations, public parking lots, sidewalks, and multi-use trails

Other areas include staffing, mailbox damage, ice dams, and what is requested of residents to help maintain safety for City crews and fellow citizens.

Lastly, a route prioritization map is included.
