The City of Delaware is working on various measures to improve pedestrian safety throughout the city. It is engaged in an effort to gather community feedback to help with the safe construction of pathways along major corridors in the city.

In collaboration with the Ohio Department of Transportation’s District 6, Delaware has proposed construction of pedestrian safety measures along William Street, Sandusky Street, and London Road at six different locations.

Building Better Connections

The measures proposed in the construction would fill gaps in the walking and shared-use paths in the city. The construction also would provide safer walking pathways both for mobility challenged individuals and the general pedestrian population. In the construction plans, the city would add curb ramps at various crosswalks that comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act. The construction plans would add curb ramps that improve pedestrian safety and would be easier for all community members to use.

Community members are invited to view construction plans and the proposed safety measures to provide feedback for the project.

Construction Is Still Years Away

Construction would be completed in phases and the planned pedestrian safety measures would be constructed in early 2028 and completed by the end of 2029. The city plans to begin the right-of-way acquisition in 2026 and complete it by 2027.

The planned construction is in the public comment phase now. The construction plans will be documented after September 8, 2026. Comments for the project may be submitted after that time.

Construction comments may be sent to Nancy Seger by email or phone. The public is welcome to attend and provide feedback for the project without discrimination.
