Delaware City Council is inviting interested citizens to step forward and apply for two open positions on the Northwest New Community Authority (NCA). As Delaware continues to grow, the NCA plays a key role in overseeing the financial plans that support critical infrastructure improvements within designated areas. Serving on this board allows residents a unique opportunity to contribute to the city’s future, with a focus on responsible development that benefits property owners and the wider community.

What Are New Community Authorities?

New Community Authorities are public bodies established to help cities manage and finance infrastructure improvements in specific areas. These authorities typically handle projects like new roads, utilities, or recreational spaces that support property owners within the designated boundaries. Each NCA is governed by a board of trustees, which includes both citizen members and representatives from local governments or developers.

For the Northwest NCA, the council seeks two citizen members to bring their perspectives and insights into decision-making for this important area of the city. While the position is unpaid, it’s a chance for residents to have a direct influence on how their community evolves and to ensure that growth is managed thoughtfully and equitably.

Commitment and Requirements

The term of office for these appointments is two years, and the commitment involves attending one annual meeting. Typically, these meetings are held during the workday and last no more than 30 minutes. This light time commitment makes the position accessible to individuals with busy schedules who still want to make a difference.

Notably, there are no residency requirements for this role, meaning you don’t need to live within the boundaries of the Northwest NCA to apply. This makes the position open to a broader range of Delaware citizens who have a vested interest in the development of this area.

In addition to these open seats on the Northwest NCA, the City Council is also still accepting applications for two similar roles on the North New Community Authority. These positions remain unfilled, and interested applicants are encouraged to apply for either authority.

How to Apply

If you’re interested in contributing to the future of Delaware’s infrastructure development, the application process is simple. You can apply by emailing Sara Dinovo, the City Council Clerk, at [email protected]. Meeting agendas, minutes, and maps of the NCAs are also available online for those interested in understanding more about the responsibilities and projects managed by these bodies. You can access this information here: www.delawareohio.net/boardcommission.

This is an excellent opportunity for residents to take part in shaping the future of their community, especially as Delaware continues to expand and develop. Whether you have experience in public service or simply a passion for the city’s growth, the council welcomes all applicants who are ready to serve.
