Betcha didn’t know that the original version of that poem, to which the music was set, used “grandfather’s” instead of “grandmother’s!”

In either case, the period between and including Thanksgiving and Christmas is often a time for trips to visit family and friends in other parts of the state or country. When you do so, if you live in the city of Delaware, there’s something you might consider doing.

The City offers a Vacation House Check service which can put your mind somewhat at ease. According to the service website, the following information is required to be submitted:

  • Name
  • Phone number in case Police needs to contact you
  • Address
  • Dates away from home
  • Key holders staying behind (names and phone numbers)?
  • Lights on timers?
  • Vehicles in the driveway (make and model, possibly even license plates, are helpful)?
  • Home alarm system?
  • House sitters staying over for a few days?
  • Other (previous break ins, gate to yard that doesn’t lock, etc.)
