The following are updates from the City of Delaware and Access Delaware:

Pennsylvania Avenue Paving Project

The Pennsylvania Avenue paving project in Delaware is entering its final stages, concluding a multi-year effort that involved installing new water and gas lines. This project is being executed in two phases:

  • Phase 1 (Executive Boulevard to Sandusky Street): Expected to be completed by September 7. This phase includes the multi-use path between Executive Boulevard and Euclid Avenue. Notably, work will pause between September 10 and September 22 to accommodate the Delaware County Fair.
  • Phase 2 (Executive Boulevard west to Troy Road): Scheduled to begin on September 23, with a targeted completion date of November 1. This phase involves widening for the Heritage Boulevard turn lane and making sidewalk improvements across the railroad tracks and along the Penn Lanes property.

Impact on the Horse Parade: For those concerned about the annual Horse Parade scheduled for September 8 there is good news. The paving work will not affect the parade, as the first phase is planned to be completed by September 7, ensuring the route will be clear for the event.

US 23 Construction Update

US 23 has seen significant construction activity, and the latest update from Access Delaware and the City of Delaware is as follows:

  • Re-opening of Lanes: Two lanes in both directions between Meeker Way and Ohio 315 have reopened. While this section of US 23 is now accessible, it remains a work zone with reduced lane widths and slightly shifted traffic patterns.
  • Ongoing Work: The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) may implement short-term lane closures during the day. Additionally, overnight paving is scheduled to occur in the coming weeks. More detailed scheduling information will be shared as it becomes available.

These updates highlight ongoing infrastructure improvements in Delaware, ensuring smoother traffic flow and enhanced road conditions in the near future.

Access Delaware provides residents with a central information source on City of Delaware transportation projects and proposals, keeping the community informed and engaged in the city’s ongoing development efforts.
