Delaware area citizens came together late last week for the first Riverfront District Open House.

The District is a key focus area and priority as detailed in the new Delaware Comprehensive Plan, ‘Delaware Together,” which built upon over 1,000 responses from the community. Its aim is to take the successful revitalization of downtown Delaware and to extend that success east.

The Open House featured discussion on the project’s timeline, funding, and impact on both businesses and residents. Some 45 citizens were in attendance.

The proposed initiative features community-driven redevelopment that will generate economic development.

According to the City, the District “…consists of multiple land uses including residential, commercial, and industrial with vacant land and buildings throughout.”

It is envisioned as a location for new housing, particularly the type that captures the millennial / Generation Z and empty nester markets. Heritage resources are also included in the District and provide ideal adaptive reuse opportunities.
