The City of Delaware is extending an open invitation to its residents for an interactive workshop on October 2. Hosted at the YMCA-National Guard Community Room from 6-7:30 pm, the event aims to engage the community in the ongoing Southwest Focus Area Plan. For those unable to attend, the city has also set up an online portal, DelawareOHFocusAreas.org, where residents can share their thoughts and suggestions starting on the same day.

The workshop serves as a platform for attendees to learn about the planning process, offer their input, review the preliminary direction of the plan, and engage in casual discussions with members of the Task Force and the City of Delaware planning team.

Workshop Highlights

The workshop is designed to be an inclusive and informative event. It will provide an overview of the Southwest Focus Area Plan, which is part of the broader Delaware Together Comprehensive Plan. This initiative identifies six key areas in the city requiring special attention for future land use and development.

Participants will have the opportunity to:

  • Understand the planning process in detail
  • Offer their input on various aspects of the plan
  • Review the preliminary direction the plan is taking
  • Engage with city officials and planning experts

A Recap of the May Workshop

Earlier this year, city leaders held a similar workshop focused on the Southwest Area Plan. The event allowed community members to learn about the planning process, offer their input, identify priorities, and meet the Southwest Area Task Force and City planning team. The upcoming October workshop aims to build on the success of the previous event, offering another chance for residents to contribute to the shaping of this vital area.

Our coverage of the earlier workshop can be read here.

What to Expect Post-Workshop

The Southwest Focus Area Plan is expected to be finalized by Fall 2023. The upcoming workshop and the online platform offer valuable opportunities for public engagement and input. The plan aims to balance economic development objectives with high-quality, sustainable development, ensuring that the Southwest Focus Area continues to contribute positively to the city as a whole.

The workshop serves as a crucial step in this ongoing process, offering residents a chance to influence the plan’s direction and outcomes. It’s a call to action for all residents to play a role in shaping the future of their community.
