You can soak up rain and save money at the same time with the City of Delaware rain barrel program.
Rain barrels capture water from a roof and hold it for later uses such as on lawns, gardens or indoor plants. They are a great way to conserve water and also have water that is free to use. The water from a rain barrel is non-potable (not drinkable), but it has several practical uses such as:
- Hand watering plants
- Watering plants with drip irrigation
- Filling bird baths or providing water to other wildlife or pets
- Water features
The City of Delaware currently is offering rain barrel kits to City water customers at a discount. EarthMinded-brand barrels in tan, black or gray are available for only $60 (regularly $120-$170). This includes the 45- 50-gallon barrel and the diverter kit and installation instructions.
To obtain a rain barrel, email Erin Wolfe, Watershed and Sustainability Coordinator, or phone 740-203-1905 to arrange payment and pick-up. Payment can be either by check or exact cash.
The City of Delaware is offering rain barrels at a discounted price as a part of its outreach efforts related to its EPA-mandated stormwater maintenance program.
