The Abbey Theater of Dublin will present three outdoor theater productions this summer as a part of their Plays in the Parks performance series. The new season features family-friendly comedy, Irish-American sounds and Broadway classics for all ages to enjoy. All performances will be held in person at Coffman Park (5200 Emerald Pkwy) and Scioto Park (7377 Riverside Dr.).

“The Abbey is making a nod to theatrical traditions and heading outdoors this summer,” Abbey Theater supervisor Joe Bishara said. “Taking the Abbey’s productions outside allows for more physical distancing and provides a unique backdrop to the performance!”

“Madagascar JR.” follows all of your favorite crack-a-lackin’ friends as they escape from their home in New York’s Central Park Zoo and find themselves on an unexpected journey to the madcap world of King Julien’s Madagascar.

The Irish… and How They Got That Way

Presented by Giant Eagle Market District, “The Irish… and How They Got That Way” is an Off-Broadway musical written by Frank McCourt. The production, in connection with Dublin Irish Days presented by the Dublin Irish Festival, features an eclectic mix of Irish music ranging from the traditional “Danny Boy” to U2’s “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For.” An irreverent but affectionate history of the Irish in America that mingles laughter and sentiment in a tapestry of classical songs and stories. The production encapsulates the most tumultuous times of the past century with vibrant humor and bitter irony.

“Les Misérables” is the world’s longest running musical — a true modern classic based on Victor Hugo’s novel and featuring one of the most memorable scores of all time.
