Now that social distancing, masks, and other guidelines have been established as the new “normal” — at least for the time being — non-profit organizations are working to return to programming.

For downtown organizations in Mansfield and Delaware, that means an opportunity to gain a rare peek inside buildings you pass every day. Both city centers are replete with older structures that present dynamic adaptive reuse potential.

These events will both take place in September.

Main Street Delaware is showcasing the “upstairs” of several of these buildings in its Hidden Spaces Tour. The first such event was held by Downtown Delaware, Inc. back in the fall of 1998.

As shared by the organization, this will be a change to “See some unfinished places that have been untouched for thirty years, some recently renovated buildings and even some currently under construction.”

This will be a self-guided walking tour that will be held from 6 PM until 9 PM on Friday, September 4. Nearly a dozen locations will be featured.

Tickets are $20 each and can be purchased here. The tour will begin at the Main Street Delaware Welcome Center at 20 E. William Street, next to COhatch. This is where you will pick-up your ticket, history on each of the locations and get started at the first stop on the tour.

In Mansfield, the annual Secret City Tour, which was cancelled earlier this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will be presented by Downtown Mansfield, Inc. (DMI) on Saturday, September 19 beginning at 10 AM.

The event announcement shares the following:

“Tickets are $20 per person and may be purchased online or on event day at the DMI HQ at 128 North Main Street . This is a self guided tour and photography is welcome. Many of the buildings are currently undeveloped, participants should dress accordingly and be prepared to walk.”

For additional information please call 419-522-0099 or email at [email protected]. This event is sponsored by Lori Holden Sjostedt with Haring Realty. Tickets are available here.
