This year we’re continuing our weekly look at unique festivals, events, and attractions that are within an easy driving distance of the Mansfield area. We call these “Summer Road Trips.” Of course, we regularly feature the many extraordinary places to visit right here in Richland County and encourage our readers to get out and experience what is on offer in our own backyard. There’s something about an outdoor performance that sets it apart, particularly when the venue is one where actors and audience are quite close together.

If you have yet to experience the summer fun of the Actor’s Theatre of Columbus performing under the stars in German Village’s Schiller Park, take our advice – it’s well worth the short trip to downtown Columbus!

This year, the traditional presentation of Shakespeare plays has been combined with additional productions. According to its website, this year’s series is entitled “Tainted Love” and “…about all of the mishaps and miseries of love: familial, romantic, human. As Lysander predicted in William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, “The course of true love never did run smooth.””

Outdoor summer shows are free and open to the public, though donations are encouraged and vital to the continued success of Actors’ Theatre. Reserved seating is available. Bringing a blanket or lawn chair is advisable; restrooms and a concession stand are nearby.

Productions in the 2019 summer season include the following:

Little Women by Louisa May Allcott — this Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at 8 PM

As You Like It by William Shakespeare — each Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at 8 PM from July 18 through August 11

Dangerous Liaisons by Christopher Hampton — each Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at 8 PM from August 15 through September 1

Reserved seating can be found at this online location.
