Embracing the Great Outdoors: Fishing, Hiking, and More
On Saturday, September 9, the Girl Scouts of Ohio’s Heartland are inviting Juniors, Daisies, Brownies, Volunteers, and their families to a day filled with outdoor activities at Alum Creek State Park. Located at 3615 S. Old State Rd. south of Delaware, the event promises a blend of education and entertainment, all in the embrace of nature.
Participants will have the opportunity to learn how to fish at the campground pond, guided by experienced instructors. Those 16 and older must have a valid Ohio fishing license. But the fun doesn’t stop at fishing; there’s a plethora of activities to choose from, including hiking, disc golf, and even a visit to the US Army Corps of Engineers Center.
A Family Affair: Not Just a Drop-Off Event
This event emphasizes family participation, requiring an adult to accompany their Girl Scout. It’s a chance for families to bond over shared experiences, whether it’s casting a fishing line for the first time or walking the Storybook Trail. The event’s organizers have ensured that there’s something for everyone, making it a perfect weekend outing for families looking to escape the city’s hustle and bustle.
Alum Creek State Park: A Gem in Delaware County
Alum Creek State Park is more than just a venue for this event; it’s a destination in itself. Known for being a popular boating and camping spot, the park offers thousands of acres of water for jet skiing, quiet coves for fishing, and the largest inland beach in the park system for swimming and sunning. The park’s large campground also features a camp store, boating access, and a nature center for campers. The family-friendly mountain bike trail and the half-mile Storybook Trail add to the park’s appeal.
