An announcement out of American Land Title Association’s spring conference carried meaningful news for Delaware County.

The ALTA Good Deeds Foundation, a 501(c)(3) created to channel industry giving into local communities, has awarded $126,000 in grants to 21 nonprofit organizations across the country. Each recipient received $6,000. Among them is a program working directly with some of the county’s most vulnerable young residents.

A Program Built for a Critical Transition

The United Way of Delaware County – Young Adult Transitional Living Program was selected as one of this year’s grant recipients. That program focuses on a narrow but essential window of time: the transition from adolescence to independence. For young adults who may lack stable housing or family support, that transition can determine the course of an entire life. Programs like this one provide not just shelter, but structure, guidance, and a path forward.

A $6,000 grant is not transformative on its own. But in programs operating at this level, it is highly targeted capital. It can mean additional weeks of housing, expanded case management, or simply the ability to say “yes” to one more person who needs help.

How the Funding Works

Unlike large-scale federal or state funding streams, these grants are intentionally local in design. Organizations are nominated by members of the title insurance industry, creating a direct link between professionals working in housing-related fields and nonprofits addressing housing stability on the ground. The result is a funding model that is smaller in scale but often more responsive.

“These grants reflect the deep commitment of the title insurance industry to the communities where we live and work,” said Steve Day NTP, board chair of the ALTA Good Deeds Foundation and past president of ALTA. “Our members believe in giving back and supporting organizations that provide vital services, from housing support and food assistance to youth programs and community development. We are proud to help these organizations continue their important work.”

The Broader Context

There is a quiet alignment here that is worth noting. The title insurance industry operates at the transactional edge of homeownership. It is present at the moment a property changes hands, when a family secures a home, when stability is formalized.

“The ALTA Good Deeds Foundation showcases the generosity and civic spirit that runs throughout the title industry,” said Chris Morton, CEO of ALTA. “Every day, title professionals work behind the scenes to help families achieve the dream of homeownership. Through the Foundation, our industry is also proud to support organizations that strengthen communities and improve lives across the country.”
