One of the routine duties during spring for local cities is the flushing of water hydrants.

Hydrant flushing releases water at a high rate of speed. Through the procedure, an adequate amount of water flow can be assured for fire fighters, residents, and businesses. It also assists in maintaining water quality through the elimination of iron and mineral deposits from water mains.

Citywide water hydrant flushing will be undertaken by the City of Delaware on April 22 through 26 from 7:30 AM to 4 PM.

Water customers may experience some temporary discoloration in their water during this hydrant flushing program. If discoloration occurs, please allow the water to cycle through your plumbing system until your water is clear. Should the discoloration condition persist or if you have any other questions or concerns, please call the Water Distribution Division at 740-203-1900 or the Utility Office at 740- 203-1250 option 4 for assistance.

Residents can follow the project on Twitter and on the city’s Facebook page.
