The exploration of alternatives to the congestion on the US 23 Corridor continues after an initial consideration of major construction projects by the Ohio Department of Transportation showed no cost-effective way to construct a major bypass.

To that end, ODOT has created an online portal focusing on the Corridor as it goes north of Columbus through Delaware County. Specifically, the focus is on the section from I-270 north to Waldo just over the border in Marion County.

As shared by ODOT, “Route 23 Connect Phase B builds upon analysis and engagement of Route 23 Connect Phase A, which considered possible free-flow connections between Waldo and I-270.

The Phase A Executive Summary can be found in the Document Section of this website. The cost, complexity, and environmental impact of the concepts presented in Phase A were too high to pursue further so the study is shifting its focus toward identifying smaller-scale improvements.”

Phase B of the Route 23 Connect Study also focuses on “…improvements along the U.S. 23 corridor between I-270 and Waldo. This evaluation will inform an action plan that pinpoints specific new project concepts that can be advanced to the project development phase. These new project concepts will range in size and scope, aiming to provide safer and more efficient travel, including increased travel time reliability for through traffic. Concepts studied will be implementable within a timeframe that will provide drivers with benefits sooner rather than later.”

Public feedback is being sought which will, in turn, provide critical information to help ODOT consider various alternatives. Comments can be made online here, which site also includes substantial additional information concerning the initiative, including area maps.
