New York Joins California as Millions More Americans Are Ordered to Stay Home

The strict new directives, in some of the country’s most populous states, were intended to slow the spread of the coronavirus. CHICAGO – America plunged into a deeper state of disruption and paralysis on Friday as New York and Illinois announced a broad series of measures aimed at keeping tens of millions of residents cloistered in their homes, following similar actions by California and a patchwork of restrictions from coast to coast.

Ohio’s confirmed coronavirus cases jump by 78 in one day, deaths go from 1 to 3

Ohio’s confirmed cases of coronavirus continued to climb on Saturday, from 169 on Friday to 247 Saturday, and there are now three deaths.The latest deaths include an 85-year-old man who succumbed to the coronavirus on Friday in Erie County and another case in Cuyahoga County, according to the state health department’s website.Coronavirus cases are now reported in 33 of the state’s 88 counties, including Franklin County, 21; Cuyahoga, 92; Butler, 16; Mahoning, 14; Summit, 15;

Ohio doesn’t have ‘shelter-in-place’ yet, but what would it look like?

Gov. Mike DeWine still has his biggest anti-coronavirus tool stowed away in his public-health protection playbook: a “shelter-in-place” order.While states such as California, New York and Illinois have essentially locked down residents in their homes to check the spread of the virus, DeWine said he thinks Ohio’s stay-at-home recommendations are succeeding — for now.The big difference: “Stay-at-home” is a suggestion while “shelter-in-place” is an order.
