Flying around central Ohio is about to become easier and healthier.

U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown has announced that the United States Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has awarded six grants to airports in Central Ohio, totaling $209,000 for operations, personnel, cleaning, sanitization, janitorial services, debt service payments, and combating the spread of pathogens at the airports. These funds were made possible through the American Rescue Plan.

“Ohio airports are vital infrastructure supporting travel and commerce in our state,” said Brown. “These investments will provide Central Ohio airports with the resources they need to ensure the safety of their passengers and support the local economy.”

FAA funds include:

  • $59,000 grant to the City of Delaware for the Delaware Municipal – Jim Moore Field Airport.
  • $32,000 grant to the Fairfield County Airport Authority & Fairfield County Commissioners for the Fairfield County Airport.
  • $22,000 grant to the Morrow County Airport Authority & County Commissioners for the Morrow County Airport.
  • $32, 000 grant to the City of Marion for the Marion Municipal Airport.
  • $32,000 grant to the City of Urbana for the Grimes Field Airport.
  • $32,000 grant to the Fayette County Board of Commissioners for the Fayette County Airport.

The FAA supports public-use airports included in the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems (NPIAS) through the Airport Improvement Program. The program supports projects that improve airport safety, capacity, security and environmental impact. More information about the FAA’s Airport Improvement Program can be found here.
