With the new month, the Ohio Highway Patrol has released year-to-date information about Delaware County traffic. Those numbers suggest that there has been a modest but real downturn in both fatal crashes and the number of traffic-related stops and violations.[widgets_on_pages id=1]

The following are numbers released by the Patrol (first number is 2018 year-to-date as of September 31; the second is the same period for 2017);

  • Enforcement stops – 10, 391 — 14,912
  • Warnings – 7,106 – 8,276
  • Motorist assists – 3,416 – 3,433
  • Crashes investigated – 1.318 – 1,303
  • OVI enforcement – 402 – 447
  • Driving under suspension enforcement – 516 – 604
  • Seat belt enforcement – 2,183 – 2,700
  • Commercial vehicle enforcement – 366 – 631
  • Felony arrests – 163 – 81
  • Felony warrants served – 23 – 18
  • Misdemeanor summons issued – 291 – 280
  • Misdemeanor warrants served – 88 – 83
  • Drug violations – 304 – 266
  • Identity theft enforcements – 8 – 3
  • Resisting arrest violations – 5 – 7
  • Weapons violations – 7 –7

This map pinpoints locations for fatal traffic crashes in year-to-date 2016, 2017, and 2018. Click on the image for a larger version. The current figure of 10 is evidence of a three-year decline, with some 21 fatalities by this time last year.

As of September 31, there have been a total of 807 traffic fatalities in Ohio, as compared to 867 at this time last year.
