The 2024 Holiday Clearing House (HCH) is gearing up for its 70th anniversary, bringing joy and support to Delaware County seniors and families in need. The program, organized by People in Need (PIN), provides groceries, gift cards, and optional delivery services, ensuring that eligible seniors and families can enjoy a warm holiday season.

Program Overview for Eligible Seniors and Families

Eligible seniors, aged 65 and older, must reside in Delaware County and meet the income requirement of living at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level. To apply, seniors must provide a photo ID and proof of residency. Seniors living in households with minors must use the Family Application instead of the Senior Application.

Participating seniors will receive:

  • Groceries for a Holiday Meal: Each approved household will receive groceries to prepare a holiday meal for family and friends. Seniors can also visit the PIN Food Pantry during operating hours to collect additional groceries once per week.
  • Gift Cards: A gift card to a local retailer will be provided to purchase groceries, gifts, or a special treat. Please note that PIN cannot accommodate requests for specific stores or restaurants.
  • Delivery or Pickup Options: Seniors can opt to have their Holiday Clearing House items delivered or schedule a pickup time at the PIN warehouse.

Application Process and Deadlines

Applications for the 2024 Holiday Clearing House program are now open, with a deadline of 3:00 PM on October 4, 2024, or once 500 families have been approved, whichever comes first. Due to high demand, no exceptions will be made beyond the set deadline. Information is available here.

  • Family Applicants: Only the “Family Application” should be used by households with minors. Seniors living with minors should also complete this form to receive their portion of the Holiday Clearing House assistance. Family applications are available exclusively online, and no paper applications will be accepted.
  • Senior-Only Applicants: Seniors living independently or without minors in their household may fill out the Senior-Only Application. Paper applications for seniors will be available at People in Need.

Community Involvement and Donation Opportunities

To support the Holiday Clearing House, the community is encouraged to contribute in various ways:

  • Donations: Donations of food, coats, and toys are welcomed and can be dropped off directly at The Coliseum at the Delaware County Fairgrounds from Monday, December 2, to Friday, December 13, between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM on weekdays.
  • Volunteer Opportunities: Information on volunteer roles and additional ways to assist will be posted in September, allowing residents to get involved and make a meaningful impact during the holiday season.
