The Historic Jail and Sheriff’s Residence in Delaware is opening its creaky doors for a series of Paranormal Tours that promise to uncover the mysteries lurking within its walls. Located at 20 West Central Avenue, this imposing building, constructed in 1878, has long been rumored to be haunted by spirits from its storied past. Now, the Delaware County Historical Society is offering brave souls the chance to experience these ghostly encounters firsthand, in partnership with Tri-C Ghost Hunters.

From September through the end of the year, these bone-chilling tours will be held on select weekends, inviting participants to delve into the dark corners of this historic jail, where whispers of the past can still be heard echoing through the corridors.

Paranormal Tour Dates and Schedule

The Paranormal Tours are scheduled for the second Saturday of each month, as well as on additional dates in September and October to meet growing demand. Each night offers two sessions, ensuring more ghost hunters can partake in this unique experience.

Tour Dates:

  • September: 13, 14
  • October: 11, 12
  • November: Dates to be announced
  • December: Dates to be announced

Tour Times:

  • Group 1: Check-in begins at 7:45 PM, with the tour running from 8:15 PM to 10:15 PM.
  • Group 2: Check-in begins at 11:15 PM, with the tour running from 11:45 PM to 1:45 AM.

These tours offer a rare opportunity to explore the jail under the cover of darkness. With nothing but your flashlight and a few small investigative tools like pendulums, dowsing rods, or recording devices, you’ll navigate the jail’s most haunted areas. As you move through the old cells and living quarters, you might just encounter the unexplained—a cold draft, an eerie voice, or perhaps even the glimpse of a shadowy figure.

A Historic Venue with a Paranormal Twist

The Historic Jail and Sheriff’s Residence has a long and storied history, serving as a county jail for nearly a century. Over the years, it has seen its fair share of notorious inmates, many of whom are said to have never left. This Gothic Revival-style building is now a prime location for those interested in the paranormal, drawing ghost hunters from across the state.

“We’re excited to bring these tours back for another season,” said a representative from the Delaware County Historical Society. “The jail has so much history, and every tour reveals something new. Whether it’s a sudden drop in temperature or an unexplained noise, there’s always something that keeps our guests on edge.”

Tri-C Ghost Hunters, one of Ohio’s leading paranormal investigation teams, will guide participants through this eerie journey. Their expertise in the field ensures that each tour is both informative and spine-tingling, making it a must-attend event for anyone interested in the supernatural.

What to Expect

The tours are strictly for adults—no one under 18 will be admitted. To participate, all attendees must sign a waiver, which will be sent via email after ticket purchase and must be presented at check-in. This is a “lights-out” event, so participants should come prepared with their own flashlights and small investigation tools.

Ticket Information:

  • Price: $40 per person, plus a small Eventbrite fee.
  • Availability: Due to the limited number of tickets, early registration is strongly recommended.

Each tour includes a two-hour investigation, followed by a brief debrief session where participants can discuss their findings. While not all areas of the jail may be accessible due to safety concerns, the tours will cover the most significant and active parts of the facility.

The Delaware County Historical Society also plans to feature a special exhibit at the jail during these tours, adding an extra layer of intrigue to the experience. While details of the exhibit are still under wraps, it’s sure to enhance the overall atmosphere of the event.

Dare to Discover

For those fascinated by history and the paranormal, this event offers a unique blend of both. The Historic Jail and Sheriff’s Residence is more than just an old building; it’s a portal to another time, where the past seems to linger just out of sight, waiting to be discovered.

To secure your spot on one of these unforgettable tours, visit Eventbrite. With limited availability, tickets are expected to sell out quickly, so don’t wait too long to register.
