The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife was recently presented with the Champion Award from the Outdoor Writers of Ohio during the organization’s annual banquet on Friday, April 15 at Delaware Wildlife Area. The inaugural award was given to the Division of Wildlife in recognition of the agency’s support for the Outdoor Writers of Ohio.

“We are honored to accept the Champion Award from the Outdoor Writers of Ohio,” said ODNR Director Mary Mertz. “We are grateful for their support and will continue to assist the Outdoor Writers as they work to share Ohio’s conservation message.”

The Division of Wildlife is the recipient of the inaugural Champion Award from the Outdoor Writers of Ohio.

“The Division of Wildlife’s 150-year history is built on partnerships such as this one,” said Division of Wildlife Chief Kendra Wecker. “We are thankful to the Outdoor Writers of Ohio for this prestigious award and for their commitment to communicating information about our state’s fish and wildlife.”

“For approximately seven decades the Outdoor Writers of Ohio and the Division of Wildlife have partnered to the benefit of both organization’s missions,” said Outdoor Writers of Ohio President Jim Rahtz. “The Champion Award recognizes that long and ongoing support and partnership.”

The Outdoor Writers of Ohio is devoted to fostering the highest standards of journalistic skill and integrity among its membership. The organization promotes the wise use of our natural resources and pledges to defend the environment against abuse and exploitation. The organization recognizes the role of the media as a public trust and is dedicated to the ideals of truth and conservation.
