The Strand Theatre will be exhibiting the documentary Common Ground with a Q & A discussion immediately following the film. The screening and discussion will be held this evening at 6:30 PM with doors opening at 6 p.m. at the Strand, 28 E. Winter St.
Ticket prices for the special event are $8.50 per person for general admission, $7 per person for students, and $6 for children, seniors, and military.
Common Ground is the second part of the acclaimed documentary Kiss the Ground which aired last April at the Strand as part of their Delaware Community Conversations: Meaningful Movies, where climate change was discussed.
The goal of this screening is to change the local discourse by addressing regenerative agriculture in the form of healthy soil. Healthy soil will balance the climate which can feed the world. The Q & A will feature: Kahlil Mitchell Smith, Ohio Wesleyan Senior majoring in environmental studies and philosophy, Nancy Reynolds, Delaware County Master Gardeners, Lisa Roberts, Watershed and Sustainability Coordinator, City of Delaware, and Anna Willow, professor of Anthropology, The Ohio State University.
“Through our Meaningful Movies initiative, we learned that the Delaware community is very interested in this topic. The representatives that are taking questions from the audience are experts in their fields and are extremely enthusiastic about this topic. We are looking forward to a robust conversation,” said managing director Tracey Peyton.
The Strand Theatre established in 1916 is one of the 10 oldest continuously operating movie theatres in the country showing first-run films. The nonprofit Strand has been recognized nationally for its sensory initiative and is a recent recipient of the Quality-of-Life Award given by the Delaware Chamber of Commerce to a nonprofit group that makes significant contributions to the community. The Strand Theatre is the recipient of the Business Innovator of the Year award, presented by Main Street Delaware, and the Historical Theatre of the Year award, presented by Heritage Ohio, for its ability to pivot during the pandemic.
