Draft Horse Hayrides

Imagine the crisp autumn air brushing against your face as you sit atop a hay bale, the rhythmic clip-clop of hooves echoing in the distance. This is precisely what you’ll experience during the Draft Horse Hayrides at Olentangy Caverns’ Fall Fest Weekends. Scheduled to run from September 23 to October 29, the hayrides offer a nostalgic journey through the scenic landscapes of the caverns.

The rides are pulled by magnificent draft horses, a sight to behold in themselves. These gentle giants are a nod to a simpler time when horsepower had a very literal meaning. The hayrides are open to all ages and cost just $3 per person. It’s an old-fashioned fall experience that promises to delight both the young and the young-at-heart. The specific times for the hayrides are yet to be announced, so keep an eye on the Olentangy Caverns website for updates.

The Great Fall Scavenger Hunt: Riddles, Rewards, and Revelry

What’s more exciting for kids than a treasure hunt? The Fall Scavenger Hunt at Olentangy Caverns offers a unique twist to the traditional autumn festivities. Armed with kid-friendly riddles, participants will journey through nine different stops scattered across the caverns. The goal? To find all the stations and crack the secret fall passcode.

Once the code is deciphered, adventurers can return to the gift shop to claim a small prize. The scavenger hunt is free with the purchase of any admission ticket, making it an affordable and fun-filled activity for families. However, it’s worth noting that prizes are available only while supplies last, adding a thrilling race-against-time element to the hunt.

Pirate Magic Show

Mark your calendars for Sunday, October 15, at 2:30 PM, because the Pirate Magic Show is docking at Olentangy Caverns. Featuring Sedgie the Hedgehog and local author and magician Erica Carlson, this family-friendly event promises an afternoon of enchantment and excitement.

The show serves as the inspiration for Erica’s recently published children’s book, Sedgie the Hedgie Finds the Treasure. Audience members will be treated to an interactive experience complete with tricks, treasure, and even helpers plucked straight from the crowd. And yes, Sedgie the REAL hedgehog will make a special appearance!

The event is free of charge and suitable for all ages. It will take place at the large shelter house, and since it’s an outdoor event, attendees are advised to dress appropriately for the weather. Books and plush hedgehogs will be available for purchase after the show, offering a perfect keepsake to remember the magical day.

The Fall Fest Weekends at Olentangy Caverns offer a cornucopia of activities designed to celebrate the season in the most delightful ways, and run from 11 AM to 5 PM. From hayrides and scavenger hunts to magical pirate shows, there’s something for everyone. So grab your sweaters, pack up the kids, and head over to Olentangy Caverns for a fall experience you won’t soon forget.
