The National Weather Service is looking for weather spotters.

The NWS office in Wilmington is holding Spotter Training sessions across Ohio, including here in Delaware County. These classes are free and open to the public, but some may require advanced registration.

You do not need to be a resident of the county in which a talk is being held in order to attend.

Each class lasts about 1 ½ to 2 hours, and is led by a National Weather Meterorologist who will discuss techniques and safety for severe weather spotting. One you attend a class, you are an officially trained spotter and can report severe weather to your NWS office.

The local session will be held on Thursday, April 4 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Delaware County Board of Developmental Disabilities, located at 7991 Columbus Pike in Lewis Center (in the East Wing’s Community Room, Room 165).

For more information and reservations, call the Delaware County EMA at 740.833.2180.
