As of Sunday, fall is officially here – the season for colorful leaves, apple ide, pumpkins, cool crisp mornings, and, of course, gourds!

There will be dark and light green gourds, orange and yellow gourds, white gourds, striped gourds, smooth gourds, warty gourds, small gourds, and huge gourds. See all of nature’s varieties at the 57th Annual Ohio Gourd Show. This year’s event takes place at the Delaware County Fairgrounds on October 4 (noon to 5:00 PM), October 5 (9:00 AM to 5:00 PM), and October 6 (10:00 AM to 4:00 PM), and has a theme of “Take Me Out to the Gourd Show.”

The Show is open to the public with an admission fee of $5.00 per person ($7.00 for the weekend).  Parking is free, and children twelve and under are admitted without charge. Food, gourds, gourd art, art and craft supplies and special programs are featured; demonstrations and presentations throughout the weekend will highlight the world of gourds, and gourd art.

Musical entertainment will be provided by Dj Dingo8 of the Restart House Music crew. Since 2002, Dingo has been running one of the longest running dance music nights in the mid-west.  For the gourd show, the music will span the 1960s through 2000s with feel good vibes the whole family can enjoy.

Gourd workshops are offered on Friday and Saturday.  On-site registrations for workshops will be accepted as space permits. A free and open demonstration event will take place on Sunday afternoon in the workshop area.  The tables will be available for showing tools and techniques, for working on a favorite project or for conversation.  Come and watch, ask questions, or share your special skills and ideas with other gourd artists.

The 2019 Show will also feature a special series of Sunday workshops for young gourd enthusiasts.

A new presentation, specifically for the new gourd enthusiast will take place on Sunday afternoon. OGS will offer “Gourds 101.” This will be a presentation covering growing and drying, cleaning, crafting and competition. There will also be a gourd cleaning demonstration.  A free and open demonstration event will also take place Sunday afternoon. Tables and chairs will be available for showing tools and techniques, for working on a favorite project and for conversation.

The Show opens to the general public at Noon on Friday; however, please note that competitive entries will not be complete until 11:00 AM on Saturday.
