There will be a special hazardous waste collection event for residents of Delaware, Knox, and Marion Counties held on July 17 at the Marion Fairgrounds hosted by the Delaware-Knox-Marion-Morrow Solid Waste District.

Materials will be accepted between 9 AM and 1 PM. The Fairgrounds are located at 220 East Fairground Street in Marion.

A photo ID is required to prove residence. Remember that there is a limit of ten cans of latex paint in five gallon containers or under, and no empty containers will be accepted.

Permissible materials for drop-off include the following:

  • Adhesives — roof tar and driveway sealers
  • Automotive Fluids- antifreeze, motor oil, gasoline, brake fluid, etc. Batteries- alkaline, Ni-Cad, lithium, rechargeable, lead acid
  • Fire Extinguishers
  • Fluorescent Bulbs
  • Household Chemicals- pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers, insecticides, etc.
  • Mercury and Mercury Containing Items Paint and Paint Related Materials- aerosol, latex, oil based paint, varnish, sealers, primers, thinners, turpentine, stains etc.
  • Propane Cylinders- 20 pounds and under
  • Smoke Alarms- only if it contains a radioactive symbol
