The Delaware General Health District has announced plans to conduct mosquito fogging in the areas of the city of Delaware west of the Olentangy River.

This will take place on Wednesday, July 29 with a weather delayed date of Thursday, July 30 if necessary.

The quick fogging is due to a suspected case of the mosquito borne disease La Crosse Encephalitis. While many infected individuals have no symptoms of the virus, some can develop diseases of the nervous system.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, “Severe disease often involves encephalitis (an inflammation of the brain) and can include seizures, coma, and paralysis. Severe disease occurs most often in children under the age of 16.”

Fogging will began about dusk and will be undertaken by Health District-marked pickup trucks. Pets and children should remain indoors.

The Health District akas that anyone who does not with their property fogged to call 740-3668-1700. Requests for non-fogging must be received by noon on Wednesday.

Updated fogging plans will be announced on DelawareHealth.org and on the Health District’s Facebook and Twitter pages.
