1808Delaware has expanded our coverage to highlight attractions and events within easy driving distance of Delaware Countians in a series called “In Our Backyard.” This will be in addition to our regular coverage of Delaware County happenings.

Maple syrup—everyone’s favorite pancake and waffle topping—is being celebrated at several Ohio state parks next month, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Parks and Watercraft. Warmer days and chilly nights are the ideal conditions to get sap flowing through Ohio’s maple trees. Visit one of these festivals to learn how maple syrup is made and sample local maple products:

Malabar Farm State Park in Richland County will host its 44th annual Maple Syrup Festival from Noon to 4  PM  on the weekends of March 7-8 and March 14-15. Visitors can take horse-drawn wagon rides to the sugar camp, witness live historical demonstrations, and enjoy food and maple products for sale. Taste a sample of maple syrup while watching the boiling process in the sugar shack. The gift store and visitor center will be open, as well as the Big House for self-guided tours. Donations will be accepted for the wagon rides.

The ODNR Division of Parks and Watercraft is responsible for managing Ohio’s 75 state parks and providing the finest outdoor recreational opportunities, including first-class boating services, facilities and law enforcement for users of Ohio’s waterways and public lands.
