Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is a national holiday celebrated on the third Monday of each year marking the birthday of the famed civil rights leader. It was signed into law by President Reagan in 1986, and first celebrated three years later.

City of Delaware:

City of Delaware offices are closed Monday, January 18 for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and there will be no refuse collection.

Residential refuse and recycling crews will operate on the “next day” collection schedule, beginning Tuesday, January 19, and continuing through Saturday, January 23, to complete the week’s collections.
