An exciting new development is underway in Berlin Township. Spearheaded by the Buckeye Swim Club, a cutting-edge aquatics center is taking shape on a sprawling 10-acre site at 1895 Peachblow Road. With a focus on meeting the growing demand for top-notch youth sports facilities, the new aquatics center is poised to become a key community hub.

Features of the New Aquatics Center

The centerpiece of this development is a 22,600-square-foot aquatics center. Designed to serve competitive swimmers, swim schools, and recreational users alike, the facility promises a variety of features to accommodate local needs:

  • Competitive Pools: The facility will house a 25-yard-by-25-meter pool, designed for high-level competitions, and a separate pool dedicated to the Buckeye Swim School, allowing for swim lessons, training, and special programs for youth.
  • Expanded Space: Recent modifications to the original design have expanded the pool area to accommodate more lanes and deck space, enabling local high school swim teams and their spectators to make use of the facility comfortably. The 10-lane configuration will allow for simultaneous events, giving the region’s swim teams a more robust training environment.
  • Community-Focused Design: Besides the pools, the aquatics center will offer amenities such as locker rooms, viewing areas for spectators, and training facilities, all aimed at making it a versatile venue for swim meets and community events.

Anticipated Opening in Fall 2025

Construction is scheduled to begin later this year, with an ambitious plan to open in fall 2025. As the development progresses, Buckeye Swim Club plans to engage local residents through community updates and tours of the site to showcase the project’s benefits.

Commercial Development Alongside the Aquatics Center

The aquatics center is just one part of the broader project. Two commercial buildings will be built on the same site:

  • Versatile Spaces: The commercial structures, measuring 17,000 square feet and 10,000 square feet, are zoned for a variety of purposes. They could host offices, healthcare facilities, childcare centers, recreational spaces, or educational services, catering to the township’s diverse needs.
  • Strategic Location: Positioned near other major community developments like Jennings Sports Park and Evans Farm, the project benefits from a well-connected location. The area is rapidly growing, and the aquatics center aims to complement existing facilities, creating a comprehensive destination for sports and wellness in Delaware County.

Impact on the Local Community

The new aquatics center is more than just a swimming venue; it represents a significant investment in youth sports and wellness infrastructure:

  • Meeting Local Demand: Delaware County, one of Ohio’s fastest-growing regions, has seen a surge in youth participation in competitive swimming and other sports. The aquatics center aims to fill a gap in the local market by offering high-quality training facilities and professional coaching.
  • Economic and Social Benefits: By attracting competitive events, the facility could boost local businesses and increase community engagement. The commercial spaces on-site are expected to generate additional economic activity and offer essential services to residents.
  • Youth Development: The presence of the Buckeye Swim Club and the dedicated Buckeye Swim School emphasizes the project’s commitment to fostering talent. Young swimmers will have access to a state-of-the-art facility where they can train, compete, and grow in a supportive environment.
