Veterans in Delaware County will soon have enhanced access to healthcare services with the opening of a new VA community-based outpatient clinic (CBOC). The Delaware clinic, strategically located at 870 Sunbury Road, Suite 2021, Delaware, is slated to begin serving patients in late 2025. This expansion represents a significant step toward addressing the healthcare needs of approximately 7,500 eligible Veterans in Delaware County, of which only half are currently enrolled in VA healthcare services.

Expanding Care for Veterans

The new clinic will offer a convenient option for Veterans who currently rely on the Marion CBOC, reducing travel times and improving access to essential services. Delaware County, a rapidly growing area in Central Ohio, is among the highest population centers in the region, making the new CBOC a vital resource for local Veterans.

“This clinic will bring care closer to home for many Veterans and help us reach unenrolled Veterans in the area,” a VA spokesperson said. Additionally, the clinic aims to ease dependence on community care options by expanding VA healthcare offerings locally.

Construction Timeline and Location Details

Construction of the Delaware CBOC began recently, with completion targeted for August 2025. The facility is expected to be fully operational by October or November. Located at 870 Sunbury Road, Suite 2021, Delaware, the clinic promises easy accessibility for Veterans in the surrounding areas.

Services to Be Offered

While a complete list of specialty services has not been finalized, lab services will be available upon opening. Updates regarding additional services will be announced as decisions are made.

One of the notable offerings is the flexibility for Veterans to use the Delaware clinic for certain services, such as lab work, even if their primary care provider is located at a different VA facility, such as Columbus or Marion.

Key Questions Answered

Veterans and community members have raised several questions regarding the Delaware CBOC, including:

  • Will radiology services be available? A full list of services is yet to be determined, but lab services are confirmed.
  • Can you keep your current provider? Yes, Veterans can choose to remain with their current provider at Columbus or Marion while using the Delaware clinic for other services.
  • Will urgent care services be provided? No, the clinic will not include urgent care services.
  • How will medications be managed? While a pharmacist will be onsite, medications will not be stored at the clinic. Prescriptions will be mailed directly to patients.

Transitioning Care and Job Opportunities

Veterans residing in the Delaware zip code will receive communication closer to the clinic’s opening, offering the opportunity to transfer their care to the new facility. Those living outside the Delaware area can request a transfer through their current primary care provider.

For those interested in working at the Delaware CBOC, job openings will be posted on the federal employment portal, USAJobs.gov, as the opening date approaches.

Marion Facility Updates

In addition to the Delaware clinic, the Marion CBOC is undergoing its own improvements, with construction expected to conclude in May 2025 and patient care beginning in August 2025. While the Marion clinic will retain its current service offerings, any potential additions will be announced as plans are finalized.

Impact on Local Veterans

The new Delaware clinic is expected to increase enrollment in VA healthcare services by addressing barriers such as travel and accessibility. By bringing a dedicated outpatient clinic to the heart of Delaware County, the VA reinforces its commitment to serving the local Veteran population and ensuring they receive timely, high-quality care.
