For the first time in 19 days, Ohio is reporting fewer than 1,000 new confirmed cases of the coronavirus.

The state on Sunday reported 838 additional confirmed COVID-19 cases, bringing Ohio’s total throughout the pandemic to 79,573.

That increase snapped an 18-day streak where Ohio reported at least 1,000 new confirmed cases. In Saturday’s report, the increase was 1,426.

In addition, the state is reporting 4,500 “probable cases” to date, which is a new expanded case definition provided by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. That total is 51 more than in Saturday’s report by the Ohio Department of Health.

Statewide, 10,199 people have been hospitalized to date — 54 more than in Saturday’s report. Of those, 2,444 in total have been admitted to intensive care units, an increase of seven from Saturday.

Statewide, there have been 3,049 confirmed deaths to date, 10 more than in Saturday’s report. Those deaths include 244 in Mahoning, 95 in Trumbull and 60 in Columbiana. Trumbull’s total grew by one; the other county totals are stable.

Ohio also has 258 probable deaths.

Of Ohio’s confirmed cases, 54,689 COVID-19 patients are presumed to have recovered from the virus.
