As the holiday season approaches, the People in Need (PIN) Holiday Clearing House is back in action, offering a glimmer of hope to Delaware County seniors and families with children. This annual initiative aims to provide not just gifts but also essential winter wear and food items. It’s a community-driven effort that embodies the spirit of giving, ensuring that no one has to go without during the festive season. If you or someone you know could use a helping hand this holiday, PIN is ready to assist.

For those interested in applying, the process has been streamlined this year. Applications are exclusively online and can be filled out at DelawarePeopleInNeed.org/hch. The deadline is stringent, with all applications due by 3:00 p.m. on Friday, October 6. Due to the anticipated high volume of applications, no exceptions will be made to this deadline. Applicants must also provide a photo ID, along with identification for each child in the household, which can range from a school ID to a vaccination record.

How the Library Can Help

Recognizing that not everyone has easy access to the internet, Delaware County District Library branches are stepping up to fill the gap. If you encounter difficulties in accessing the internet to complete the online application or upload the necessary supporting documents, simply head to your nearest library branch. Staff members at the Information Desk are trained to assist you in navigating the online application process.

Mark Your Calendars

The much-anticipated Distribution Day for the Holiday Clearing House is slated for Sunday, December 10. The event will take place at the Coliseum Building on the Delaware County Fairgrounds, located at 236 Pennsylvania Avenue in Delaware. For seniors, a special distribution is planned for Thursday, December 7, with options for either delivery or pickup.

How You Can Contribute: Donations and Volunteer Opportunities

If the spirit of the season moves you to contribute, PIN welcomes both donations and volunteers. Monetary or item donations can be coordinated by contacting Dan at [email protected]. Those interested in volunteering their time and skills can reach out to Connie at [email protected] or sign up online. For any additional questions or clarifications, Kathy is available at [email protected].

The PIN Holiday Clearing House is more than a charity drive; it’s a testament to the power of community. Whether you’re a recipient, donor, or volunteer, your participation contributes to a larger narrative of compassion and unity, making Delaware County a better place for all its residents.
