Powell is gearing up for a significant upgrade to its curbside recycling program. Starting the week of November 4, Rumpke will deliver spacious, 65-gallon green recycling carts to all Powell homes at no cost.

These larger, wheeled carts will offer a cleaner look, reduce litter and spills, and make it easier for residents to recycle more effectively.

New Green Bins Roll Out in Powell

The new green carts come equipped with hinged lids and wheels, providing a convenient and efficient solution for Powell’s curbside recycling. These larger bins allow residents to increase their recycling capacity and contribute to the city’s sustainability efforts.

Powell’s older red bins can either be kept for personal use or set out at the curb for collection on Tuesday, November 19. Rumpke will handle the removal of these smaller bins, making room for the more spacious green carts.

Tips for Using the New Green Bins

Here’s what residents need to know about using the new green bins:

  • Collection Day: Recycling will continue to be picked up weekly.
  • Positioning: Place the cart with its opening facing the street, keeping it three feet from obstacles such as mailboxes, parked cars, utility poles, or other waste containers.
  • Filling: Place materials loosely in the green cart. Ensure the lid is closed, as materials should be fully contained.
  • Excess Recycling: If you have more recyclables than the cart can hold, place the overflow neatly beside the cart.
  • Keep It Off the Street: Do not place the cart in the street to avoid obstruction or safety concerns.

This initiative aims to enhance Powell’s curbside recycling efficiency while improving the community’s environmental footprint.
