A new educational opportunity is blooming in Shawnee Hills! A Rain Garden Workshop is set to take place at the Shawnee Hills Municipal Building on Thursday, February 13, from 6:30 to 8:00 PM, offering an insightful look into the benefits of rain gardens and how to install one in your own yard.

Co-hosted by Shawnee Hills, Shawnee Hills Blooms, and Franklin Soil and Water Conservation District, this workshop is part of the Shawnee Hills Blooms Education Series. Participants will learn from experts Erin Fisher of Delaware SWCD and Madison Wisniewski, a Certified Master Rain Gardener, about the role rain gardens play in slowing down, soaking in, and cleaning up stormwater naturally.

What to Expect

This hands-on seminar will cover:
✔️ The environmental benefits of rain gardens
✔️ How to design and install one in your yard
✔️ Best practices for managing stormwater effectively

Rain gardens are attractive, functional, and eco-friendly solutions that help filter stormwater and reduce runoff, all while enhancing your landscape. Whether you’re a homeowner, gardener, or community advocate, this session will equip you with the tools to make a difference.

Meet the Instructors

Erin Fisher
Erin is the Communications & Outreach Coordinator for Delaware SWCD, working with communities to promote soil and water conservation. With a BS in Environmental Studies from the University of Cincinnati, her experience spans environmental education, natural resources management, and public outreach, including roles at the Cincinnati Nature Center, as a Park Ranger at Alum Creek, and as the Watershed & Sustainability Coordinator for the City of Delaware.

Madison Wisniewski
Madison is the Conservation Implementation Specialist at Franklin Soil & Water Conservation District. A Certified Master Rain Gardener, she specializes in helping residents install rain gardens and stormwater management tools. A graduate of Ohio University with a BS in Environmental Geography, Madison has worked with watershed organizations and soil & water conservation districts throughout Ohio.
