Central Ohio is buzzing with excitement as the newest outdoor adventure, the Red Fox Trail, opens at McCammon Creek Park. Nestled in the heart of Lewis Center, this trail offers a unique opportunity for local residents and visitors alike to reconnect with nature.

McCammon Creek Park: A New Gem

Situated at 3675 E. Orange Rd, McCammon Creek Park is the latest addition to Ohio’s rich tapestry of natural beauty. Spanning 54 acres, the park is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts, featuring amenities like cross-country skiing, hiking, and jogging. The Red Fox Trail, located north of Orange Road in Area C, marks the park’s debut to the public.

Access and Amenities

Access to this nature retreat is convenient, with walk-in options from the multi-use trail along East Orange Road, nestled between Orange Friends Church and Bale Kenyon Road. For those driving, limited parking is available at Orange Friends Church. Future developments promise more trails, shelters, and the renovation of the historic Bicentennial Barn, enhancing the park’s appeal.

Trail Details: An Invigorating Outdoor Experience

The Red Fox Trail, a gravel pathway, offers a moderately challenging hike with some elevation changes. The trail takes approximately 30 minutes to complete, making it an ideal choice for a quick escape into nature.

Wildlife and Scenery

As hikers traverse this 1.5-mile trail, they’ll encounter diverse habitats ranging from meadows to woodlands. The trail promises sightings of local wildlife, including wild turkeys, butterflies, red-tailed hawks, cottontails, red foxes, and white-tailed deer. A highlight is the picturesque pine grove, perfect for a tranquil moment or a photo opportunity.

Pet-Friendly Outdoors

Dog owners will be pleased to know that leashed dogs are welcome on the Red Fox Trail. This inclusion allows pet owners to share the joys of nature with their furry companions.

Future Prospects: Expanding McCammon Creek Park

While the Red Fox Trail marks the beginning of McCammon Creek Park’s public offerings, there’s more on the horizon. The east and west sections of the park, still under development, will soon feature additional amenities and trails. The ongoing restoration efforts aim to create a comprehensive outdoor experience for all visitors.

McCammon Creek Park’s vision includes not just trails and shelters, but also the renovation of the Bicentennial Barn, adding a historical element to the park. These enhancements signal a commitment to developing a space that honors the region’s heritage while providing modern recreational facilities.
