Local organizations will soon have another opportunity to turn ideas for healthier living into community projects across Delaware County.
The Delaware Public Health District will open applications for its 2027 Healthy Communities Micro Grant Program on August 31. The grants support initiatives that improve access to healthy foods, encourage healthier eating and create more opportunities for physical activity.
Eligible applicants are expected to include schools, nonprofit organizations, local governments and community groups working to improve health and well-being. Projects may focus on prevention, education, access to services or other priorities identified through the Delaware County Community Health Improvement Plan.
A revised schedule for recipients
Applications will be accepted during the fall, with funding expected to become available shortly after the beginning of 2027. That will allow contracts to be completed and projects to begin earlier in the calendar year. The revised schedule follows feedback from previous applicants and community partners who said earlier grant timelines sometimes made it difficult to plan projects, finalize contracts and begin work efficiently.
Health district officials believe the new cycle will give grant recipients more flexibility, additional planning time and a stronger start for their initiatives.
Organizations can begin planning now
Complete eligibility requirements, available funding amounts and application instructions will be included in the official request for proposals released August 31. Organizations considering an application are encouraged to begin identifying potential projects now and watch for the full announcement.
