With over 46% of Delaware County’s land dedicated to farming, agriculture remains a cornerstone of the local economy. However, as urban development expands and environmental factors shift, the industry faces both challenges and opportunities. This panel will offer attendees an inside look at how local farmers and agricultural experts have adapted to changing times and what the future may hold.
Moderated by DCHS board president Karen Cowan, the discussion will feature local family farmers and agricultural professionals who will share personal experiences, evolving practices, and insights into sustainable farming. Panelists include:
- Brian Skinner – A longtime farmer in Delaware County
- Doug Dawson – An experienced local farmer
- Cameron James – A new-generation farmer
- Mary Fleming – A farmer with deep family ties to the region
- Rob Leeds and Jacci Smith – Representatives from Ohio State Extension Services, providing expert insights on the future of farming in Delaware County
The discussion will explore the impact of urban expansion, technological advancements, and sustainability practices on agriculture. Attendees will gain a deeper appreciation of how farming has shaped the region and learn how they can support this vital industry moving forward.
