Across the country, parks are welcoming guests for annual New Year’s Day hikes.

One of those hikes is taking place right here in Delaware County.

According to the America’s State Parks website, 85,000 people took to trails on New Year’s Day 2020, taking an amazing 415,693,531 steps (not certain how they figured that one out!) and traversing a total distance equal to seven trips around the Equator.

Calories burned that year were equivalent to 41,348 fast-food hamburgers.

In 2021, there were a total of 400 hikes nationwide.

Locally, Saturday brings the 2022 edition to Preservation Park’s Char-Mar Ridge Park on Lewis Center Road near Galena. Walk the scenic 1.5-mile loop trail at Char- Mar and then finish up with some hot refreshments. The hike will be moderately strenuous with some hills.

The fun starts at 10 AM.
