Main Street Delaware presents a memorable evening filled with events that will both entertain and enlighten the local community. On tonight’s First Friday, from 6 to 9 PM, the streets of Delaware will come alive with the theme of “Safety on Sandusky.”
Partnering with Local Heroes
Main Street Delaware is joining hands with local law enforcement to organize a fun, family-friendly, free event. The night will offer an opportunity for the community to connect with those who protect and serve, with the following activities planned:
Community Partner and Resource Booths
Learn about the various resources available to the community, and get to know the organizations working to make Delaware a better place.
Kids Activities
A dedicated space for children to play and learn, filled with engaging activities to keep the young ones entertained.
Police Cars Showcase
Witness the vehicles used by Delaware’s finest. It’s a great chance for children to see up close the cars they often admire from afar.
Delaware Community Concert Band
Enjoy the musical performance by the talented musicians who bring Delaware’s musical heritage to life.
Raising Awareness: Walk a Mile in Her Shoes
In an effort to raise awareness about the serious causes and effects of domestic and sexual violence, Main Street Delaware will host Walk a Mile in Her Shoes. Registration for this poignant event begins at 6 PM at the corner of Winter and Sandusky Streets.
Community Pep Rally
Kickstart the evening with the Community Pep Rally at 5:30 PM at Cornell Stadium. Let’s come together to cheer for community spirit!
Shuttle Service
For your convenience, a First Friday Shuttle is available from the County Lot, 145 North Union Street.
Special Event: Visit the Historic 1878 Jail
Take a step back in time and explore the Historic 1878 Jail (pictured above) from 6 to 8 PM. Learn about the jail breaks, the fires, and look inside the cells where prisoners lived. A special treat will be an appearance by Delaware County Historical Society Board President Emeritus, Brent Carson, who has a wealth of fascinating stories to share.
Note: The tour includes graffiti on the cell walls that some may find objectionable. Is it graffiti or art? The decision is yours.
Though the tours are free, donations are graciously accepted.
Join us in celebrating community, safety, and connection. Enjoy a family evening with your neighbors, explore the shops, dine at local restaurants, and revel in the sense of community that Main Street Delaware has fostered. Whether it’s learning about history or taking a stand against violence, this First Friday offers something for everyone. Come be a part of the Safety on Sandusky!
