The City of Westerville is currently navigating through an unexpected delay in its annual leaf collection process. This year, the city has witnessed a significant increase in leaf volume, causing the service to fall behind schedule. This article delves into the current status of the leaf collection, the adjusted timelines, and important information regarding the holiday hours for City facilities and the Westerville Community Center.

Leaf Collection Update

The City’s leaf collection service, a vital part of Westerville’s environmental management, is presently in its third round. As of Wednesday, December 6, crews have transitioned from Zone 2 to Zone 3. However, this shift comes with a notable delay – the service is currently running about a week and a half behind its original schedule.

The increased volume of leaves has posed a challenge for the City’s service crews, who are working diligently to manage the backlog. Residents are advised to anticipate deviations from the initial pickup schedule. Despite these challenges, the City is committed to completing the leaf collection across all zones. A final clean-up round is projected to be completed by Friday, December 22, contingent on favorable weather conditions.

In light of the delay, the City is offering an additional pickup for all residents during the clean-up round. This gesture ensures that every household receives adequate service, despite the disruptions in the schedule. However, residents should be aware that the dates for this additional pickup may not align with the initial collection schedule.

Holiday Hours for City Facilities

As the festive season approaches, Westerville has announced its holiday hours for various city facilities, including the popular Westerville Community Center. Understanding these timings is crucial for residents planning to access city services during this period.

Westerville Community Center Hours
  • Sunday, December 24: Open from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM
  • Sunday, December 31: Open from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM
City Facility Closures
  • Monday, December 25: All city facilities will be closed
  • Monday, January 1: All city facilities will be closed

On days following the closures, namely Tuesday, December 26, and Tuesday, January 2, city facilities will resume normal operations.

Waste Collection During Holidays

Residents should note that yard waste, trash, and recycling collections will follow their regular schedules, with the exception of a one-day delay in services. This adjustment ensures that waste management continues smoothly during the holiday season.

Stay Informed and Connected

Westerville encourages its residents to stay engaged and informed about city services. The Tell Westerville mobile application and the City’s website are excellent resources for submitting service requests and receiving updates. These tools are part of the City’s commitment to maintaining open communication channels with its residents.
