It may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but for some, it’s a welcome diversion from the both the bustle of everyday life and what can be crowded parks in warmer times of the year.
Winter camping is enjoyed by thousands of Ohioans each year, and it can be accomplished right here in Delaware County.
A few parks close for the winter season but many others remain open by limiting the number of sites or the amenities in the campground. Many parks that remain open, limit water and electric availability.
Due to the wide range of weather in Ohio during the winter, some parks adjust their winter camping season dates.
For Ohio State Parks, winter camping is generally defined as taking place between November 15 and April 1.
- Alum Creek State Park campground has 292 sites. It is open for winter camping with limitations — the shower house, dump station, and water (select sites) are available.
- Delaware State Park campground has 211 campsites. There, electric is provided in sites 51 to 100, and the shower house, dump station, and water are available.
Campers are reminded that a reservation is required to camp, with no walk-in sites available, “self contained” camping should be practiced, all COVID-19 protocols should be followed, that only registered campers are allowed in the campground (no visitors), and that restrooms and shower houses may be limited at all facilities during the off season.
