Now through April 8 – Ohio Wesleyan’s Richard M. Ross Art Museum presents exhibits connected by the theme “Cityscape/Landscape.” The Kuhlman Gallery features “Pattern Drift: Cityscape,” a collection of art by Philadelphia-based printmaker Amze Emmons, a 1996 Ohio Wesleyan graduate and associate professor at Tyler School of Art at Temple University. The West Gallery features “Landscape through the Lens: Responses to William Henry Jackson,” bringing the works of contemporary photographers Mark Klett and Byron Wolfe, Zig Jackson, and Martina Lopez into conversation with the work of Jackson, a 19th-century landscape photographer. During the academic year, the Ross, 60 S. Sandusky St., Delaware, is open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10 AM to 5 PM; Thursday from 10 AM to 9 PM; and Sunday from 1 PM to 5 PM. 8 PM on April 2, 16, 23, and 30 – Virtual evening programs offered by Ohio Wesleyan’s Perkins Observatory. Content of the online events will vary based on sky conditions and may include a planetarium show, observatory tours, and stargazing with the 32-inch Schottland Telescope. 7 PM on April 7 – “Nature-Inspired Innovation: How Biomimicry Can Lead to Radical Business and Sustainability Advancements.” Jared Yarnall-Schane, entrepreneurship director for the Biomimicry Institute in Bloomington, Indiana, discusses how studying biology and other natural sciences can lead to business breakthroughs. DeFrantz presents “Making*Queering*Dancing.” DeFrantz, Ph.D., is a professor of African and African American Studies at Duke University, and director of SLIPPAGE: Performance, Culture, Technology, a research group that explores emerging technology in live performance applications. The lecture is part of “Moving Bodies and Social Justice,” a virtual series of events created by dance faculty from the Five Colleges of Ohio, which includes Ohio Wesleyan, Oberlin College, Kenyan College, Denison University, and The College of Wooster. 7 PM on April 22 – Billy Vickers presents “Building One of the Largest Black-Owned Businesses in the Nation.” Vickers, founder and CEO of Modular Assembly Innovations, discusses how his philosophy of servant leadership and seeking a diversity of perspectives has helped him build one of the largest black-owned companies in the country. 7 PM on April 22 – Jaamil Olawale Kosoko presents “The Transgressive Body Workshop.” Kosoko, M.A., is a Nigerian-American poet, curator, and performance artist. In fall 2020, he was appointed as the Alma Hawkins Visiting Chair at the UCLA Department of World Arts and Cultures/Dance. The lecture is part of “Moving Bodies and Social Justice,” a virtual series of events created by dance faculty from the Five Colleges of Ohio, which includes Ohio Wesleyan, Oberlin College, Kenyan College, Denison University, and The College of Wooster. 7 PM on April 23, 24, and 30, and May 1, and 2 PM on May 2 – “Twelfth Night, 2020,” a modern adaptation of Shakespeare’s classic that refocuses the circumstances and characters on contemporary issues. Adapted and directed by OWU instructor and 2005 graduate Bradford Sadler, the play focuses on LGBTQIA+ representation and the role of protest in expressing the voice of a community. The production will work to connect with and support local community organizations. All performances are expected to be held outdoors in the amphitheater located beside Hamilton-Williams Campus Center, 40 Rowland Ave., Delaware, and will follow the latest public health guidelines.
