One of the many advantages for Delaware and Delaware Countians of living close to a nationally respected university is access to good music on a regular basis.
Opportunities arrive this week to enjoy two very different musical groups affiliated with Ohio Wesleyan University.
On Tuesday evening at 8 PM, OWU’s Park Avenue Jazz Ensemble will appear in concert, conducted by faculty member Kevin Turner.
The Park Avenue Jazz Ensemble is comprised of students who wish to further their musical experience through jazz performance and study. The ensemble primarily functions as a big band with combos arranged from the band. The Park Avenue Jazz Ensemble rehearses 4-5 hours per week, performing on campus as well as for a number of off-campus events. Membership is open to all University students by audition.
On Thursday evening at 8 PM, the OWU Symphonic Wind Ensemble will appear in concert, conducted by faculty member Richard Edwards.
The Symphonic Wind Ensemble performs artistically challenging music balancing the best of old and new repertoire. Membership is made up of many dedicated OWU students including music majors, non-music majors, and some community members. It appears in two to three concerts per semester.
Both concerts will take place in Gray Chapel inside University Hall, 61 S. Sandusky Street. Admission is free for both events.
