Throughout this week, Ohio Wesleyan Environment and Sustainability invites the OWU community to participate in an Earth Week Challenge!

This year, students in professor John Krygier’s Environment and Sustainability Practicum have worked to design daily activities to complete from home. All events and details are available on the sustainability blog: owu.edu/sustainability.

“Our hope is that these activities will not only honor the planet and the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, but also bring the OWU community together in a constructive and positive celebration,” the students say. The events were organized after planned campus events were canceled because of COVID-19.

Many of the events include a hashtag to make it easier for everyone to share what you are doing to celebrate. You are invited to use the #OWUENVS and follow @owuenvs on Twitter and Instagram for updates.

Highlights include:

  • Nature photo challenge
  • Calculate your carbon footprint to #FlattentheCurve on carbon emissions
  • Neighborhood poster parade
  • Healthy food cook-along with Chef Del Sroufe

On Wednesday April 22, the OWU chapter of Citizens’ Climate Lobby will host a screening of Anote’s Ark, acclaimed documentary about the island nation of Kiribati, which is threatened by rising seas. Email [email protected] for the link to our secure Zoom screening.

Instead of Ohio Wesleyan’s first-ever environmentally-themed Day on the Jay, we will celebrate the end of Earth Week on Friday, April 24, with a sustainable cooking demo hosted by Chef Del Sroufe. He is an expert in healthy, plant-based cooking whose recipes are simple for beginners and use ingredients in your pantry. Email [email protected] to join the lesson.

Questions or suggestions? Email [email protected], or message us on Instagram @owuenvs.

Happy Earth Month, we hope you can join us this week!
