Ohio Wesleyan University (OWU) invites Delaware County students and families to an informational session about the new Delaware County Promise program, offering tuition-free education to eligible students. The event will take place on Monday, January 6, at 6:00 PM in the Orange Community Room at the Orange Branch Library. No registration is required.

This session, led by OWU’s Vice President for Enrollment, provides an excellent opportunity for families to learn how this transformative scholarship program can make higher education more affordable for local students.

A Tuition-Free Opportunity for Delaware County Students

The Delaware County Promise is a groundbreaking initiative that eliminates tuition costs for incoming first-year students who meet specific criteria. Starting in fall 2024, eligible students can attend OWU without paying tuition, removing a significant financial barrier to achieving a college education.

Eligibility requirements include:

  • Residency: Students must live in or attend a high school in Delaware County.
  • Academic Performance: A GPA of 3.5 or higher is required.
  • Financial Need: Family income must not exceed $100,000 annually (adjusted gross income).
  • First-Year Status: The program is open only to incoming first-year college students.

What You’ll Learn at the Event

The informational program at the Orange Branch Library will cover key details about the scholarship, including:

  • What costs are covered: The program provides full tuition scholarships.
  • Additional expenses: Students are responsible for room and board costs.
  • Eligible schools: A list of participating high schools, including public, private, and charter schools in Delaware County.
  • Application process: How to apply for the program and complete the required steps, including submitting transcripts and the FAFSA.

Families will also have the chance to ask questions and hear directly from OWU’s enrollment experts about how this program benefits the community.

How the Delaware County Promise Works

The scholarship program covers tuition for four years, making OWU’s high-quality liberal arts education available to more local students. Recipients must live on campus to participate fully in OWU’s residential learning environment.

While tuition is free for eligible students, other costs, including room and board, will need to be covered by families. The total estimated cost of attendance at OWU for the 2024-2025 academic year is $68,572, with room and board comprising a significant portion of that amount.

High Schools Included

Students from public, private, and charter high schools in Delaware County are eligible, including:

  • Big Walnut High School
  • Buckeye Valley High School
  • Delaware Area Career Center
  • Olentangy Berlin, Liberty, Orange, and High Schools
  • Rutherford B. Hayes High School
  • Westerville Central and North High Schools

The Delaware County Promise builds on that legacy by offering local students a chance to pursue their dreams without the burden of tuition.
