Ohio Wesleyan University has announced its April 2022 lineup of public events. Unless otherwise noted, admission is free.
Now through May 9 – “The Natural World,” featuring images by award-winning photographer Max Seigal, Ohio Wesleyan Class of 2009, in Gallery 2001 inside Beeghly Library, 43 Rowland Ave., Delaware. Seigal combines his OWU degrees in biology and environmental science to capture breathtaking views of the natural world. Gallery 2001, on the library’s first floor, is open during library hours. 7:30 p.m. April 1-2; 7:30 p.m. April 8-9; 2 p.m. April 10 – “Journeys of Love: A Festival of New Musical Theatre, Written by Professional Composers, Lyricists, and Book Writers,” directed by Brian Granger with musical direction by Jennifer Whitehead. This revue features eight new works themed around moving toward (or away from) things we love and includes songs and scenes from many of the most talented theatre-makers in the industry right now. The performance includes mature themes and may not be suitable for those under 13. The revue will be performed on the Main Stage of Ohio Wesleyan’s Chappelear Drama Center, 45 Rowland Ave., Delaware. Bapat, Ph.D., the Dowd Professor in the Study of Peace and War at the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill, presents “Afghanistan and the End of the War on Terror,” in the Benes Rooms of Hamilton-Williams Campus Center, 40 Rowland Ave., Delaware. Bapat’s talk will explore the background of al Qaeda’s campaign against the United States, the aftermath of Operation Enduring Freedom, the structural flaws in the U.S. strategy, and the aftermath of the Taliban victory. His presentation is OWU’s 2021-2022 John Kennard Eddy Memorial Lecture on World Politics. 7 p.m. April 7 – Ohio Wesleyan students compete in the first-ever Pitch OWU competition, in the Benes Rooms of Hamilton-Williams Campus Center, 40 Rowland Ave., Delaware. The event is presented by The Woltemade Center for Economics, Business and Entrepreneurship and enables students to pitch their entrepreneurial ideas to a panel of judges. The top three winners will receive cash prizes of $1,000, $300, and $100, respectively, to support the further development of their ideas. Event sponsors include Delaware’s First Commonwealth Bank and Columbus-based Schneider Downs & Co. Inc. tax consultants. Admission is free, but tickets are required by visiting owu.edu/PitchOWU. April 9-May 7 – “Action Potential,” featuring works by Ohio Wesleyan’s graduating fine arts students, at the Richard M. Ross Art Museum, 60 S. Sandusky St., Delaware. The exhibit, featuring pieces juried by their OWU professors, will open with a public reception from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, April 9. During the academic year, the Ross is open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The museum is handicap-accessible and admission is always free.
