Ohio Wesleyan University has announced its May 2021 lineup of public events. Nearly all events will be virtual. Unless otherwise noted, admission is free.

May 1-May 28 – “Unprecedented,” featuring artwork by Ohio Wesleyan’s 10 graduating fine arts students, at the Richard M. Ross Art Museum, 60 S. Sandusky St., Delaware. All pieces were selected for exhibition by OWU professors. The student exhibit will open with an online reception at 5 p.m. Saturday, May 1. During the academic year, the Ross is open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. It will be closed May 11-12 for Bishop Break days. 7 PM May 1 and 2 PM. May 2 – “Twelfth Night, 2020,” a modern adaptation of Shakespeare’s classic that refocuses on contemporary issues. Adapted and directed by OWU instructor and 2005 graduate Bradford Sadler, the play focuses on LGBTQIA+ representation and the role of protest in expressing the voice of a community. All performances (including 7 p.m. April 23, 24, and 30) will be held in the outdoor amphitheater beside Hamilton-Williams Campus Center, 40 Rowland Ave., Delaware, and will follow the latest public health guidelines. 7 PM May 4 – Jay Martin, Ph.D., Ohio Wesleyan men’s soccer head coach and professor of Health and Human Kinetics, presents “Manage Like a Coach.” The winningest coach in NCAA men’s soccer history, Martin will discuss what his coaching philosophy has to teach managers in the world of business. His presentation is part of OWU’s 2020-2021 Sagan National Colloquium, an exploration of how the liberal arts contributes to the best business ideas and how businesses can create positive social change. 7 PM May 4 – Ohio Wesleyan Park Avenue Jazz Ensemble concert, conducted by faculty member Larry Griffin. The free performance will be pre-recorded and released online at owu.edu/stream. Learn more at owu.edu/music.

9 PM May 7, 14, and 21 – Virtual evening programs offered by Ohio Wesleyan’s Perkins Observatory. Content of the online events will vary based on sky conditions and may include a planetarium show, observatory tours, and stargazing with the 32-inch Schottland Telescope. 3 PM May 9 – Ohio Wesleyan music student recital featuring Luke Belinski, alto sax; Hunter Coon, voice; Madison Deckop, voice; Rachel Foster, double bass; Hayden Houpt, tuba; and Logan Page, trumpet. 8PM May 13 – Todd Thompson, Ph.D., professor of astronomy at The Ohio State University, presents “Black Holes Near and Far.” His online discussion is part of the New Vistas lecture series offered by Ohio Wesleyan’s Perkins Observatory. 8PM May 14 – “One Acts 2021” featuring the work of students from Ohio Wesleyan’s fall playwriting class and spring directing class, on the Main Stage of Chappelear Drama Center, 45 Rowland Ave., Delaware. Original scripts written by student-playwrights will be directed by student-directors for their final class project. The plays will feature student-performers and may contain adult themes and language. Tickets will not be issued and seating will be limited based on the latest public health guidelines. 7 PM. May 18 – “Astronomer Dreaming,” presented by the Ohio Wesleyan Department of Music in conjunction with the Department of Theatre & Dance. This unique and collaborative theatre and music performance will be directed by faculty member Jason Hiester. The free performance will be pre-recorded and released online at owu.edu/stream. 10 Am May 29 – Ohio Wesleyan’s 2021 and 2020 Commencements, featuring remarks from a representative of each class. The event is ticketed and by invitation only, but will be streamed live online at owu.edu/stream.
